A Passion Turned Into a Purpose
Lucas Lawn & Landscape was founded in 1988 in Indian Trail, NC, by Doug Lucas after he left a ten-year career at Food Lion, one of North Carolina’s largest companies. With savings he had built over time and a desire to create something lasting, Doug bought a pickup truck, a push mower, and a few small tools, then set out to outwork everyone in the area.
In the early years, growth was not the focus. The company was busy winning contracts, maintaining properties, and building a reputation from the ground up. As the Charlotte area expanded, with new developments and commercial properties coming online, Lucas Lawn & Landscape showed up every morning and proved itself as one of the area’s most dependable companies. That consistency and professionalism became its calling card.
One property led to the next, and each landscape installation opened the door to another. Developers remembered the name, property managers passed it along, and the crews and equipment grew steadily. It was not growth driven by a formal plan, but by a phone that kept ringing and a team that kept working.

The company remains family-owned, rooted in Indian Trail, and guided by the same people who answered the first call in 1988. That is what almost 40 years of staying true to the work looks like. The trucks are newer and the crews are larger, but on any given morning across the Carolinas, a Lucas crew is still on a property doing what the company was built to do: showing up and doing the job right, on time, every time.
